Ember Sword Questline: The Executive Chef

Starting Location: Burkhalter’s Academy (Solarwood)

Quest Giver NPC: Professor Awyn

Quest Dialogue:

Professor Awyn: What is it!...sorry, my stomach is a bit upset at the moment. The eating quarters at the academy have been a bit lack luster recently. I believe our head cook has become a bit complacent. They can't even brew a tea correctly anymore. Stomach gargles. Oh, how I miss the exquisite dishes I use to have on my many travels. The fine dishes of Duskeron, Sevrend, Ediseau, and the farmlands of even Solarwoods were all excellent. You haven't really experienced the nation's pride until you tried them all!

I have a proposition for you. All of our students come from all four nations. Perhaps we could have a nation night of sorts where we prepare a three-course meal and a beverage all coming from the different nations. Could help the students who are home sick and introduce other students to the positives of other nations...I'm sure it could cut tensions after that incident at the proving grounds last semester. Here is a list of the best chefs, confectioners, and brewmasters of all of Thanabus. Try and get the recipe from their signature creations. Once you have them all we can work with the chefs and cooks in the academy and make something special! Finally some decent food for me...I mean...for the students of course!

New Quest: The Taste of Thanabus

Part 1: Find the chef named Quebown in Glenton to learn how to make Harvester House Salad

Part 2: Find the grillardin named Char in Maja to learn how to make Dune Drake Roast

Part 3: Find the confectioner named Yacob in Skyder to learn how to make Frost Bovine Ice Cream

Part 4: Find the brewmaster named Cooper in Starscrape to learn how to make Dark Bloom Tea

(The player does not need to do these in a specific order)

Part 1: Quebown in Solarwood

Finding Glenton

The player will travel to Glenton in Solarwood. In the tavern, the player will see an NPC crying at the bar. This will initiate the following dialogue

Quebown: I'm ruined! The salad competition is next month and I'm gonna lose!

The player: Salad competition sounds a bit strange. Isn't food competitions usually like bake-offs or chili cook-offs

Quebown: You must not be from around here. We are solarwoodlings! Of course, we have salad competitions! I win the annual salad competition each year with my harvester house salad. Sadly I can't get the signature ingredient for the house dressing anymore from my supplier!

The player: I was actually sent here to get the recipe for that exact salad could you show me how to make it?

Quebown: Have you been listening to me! I don't have the special dressing because my supplier found someone else to sell to! Also, my salad recipe has always been a secret...unless, you maybe can persuade my supplier, farmer Pome to get me what I need to make the dressing. You get me the ingredient, we will make the salad together. Oh and while you're out, why don't you pick up the other parts to the salad in the farmlands. Without the main ingredient for the house dressing, I didn't bother with getting the rest.

New Quest: The House (Salad) Always Wins

Acquire 5 heads of lettuce (farmlands south of Glenton pick up)

Acquire 5 tomatoes (farmlands east of Glenton pick up)

Acquire 10 combs of sun honey (dropped by NPC sun bees 50/50 drop rate)

Acquire 10 red olives (woods north of Glenton. Wolves will attack in that area)

(No specific order)

Find Farmer Pome (farmlands west of Glenton)

Dialogue:

The player: I need the secret dressing ingredient you make for Chef Quebown.

Pome: I'm afraid I can't do that, you see the ingredient is a vinaigrette I make from a special cave berry. You have to be careful with them, eating them in large quantities can make you purple and crazy!

The player: So you don't want to make it because its dangerous

Pome: What? No! I could care less, last time I went into the cave, I heard strange growls and noises. I'm just a farmer and Quebown is the only one that wants those berries. The demand is too weak for me to risk the supply.

The player: I can go into the cave.

Pome: Good luck! You may want to bring some friends! The sounds are haunting in the cave!

New Quest: Supply and Demand

Step 1: Find out the strange noise in the cave (North of Farmer Pome's farm)

The player will then find out that it is a purple ogre in the cave.

Step 2: Defeat the purple ogre (3-5 players required).

Step 3: Pick the cave berries

Step 4: Give Pome the berries to make the vinaigrette

Dialogue

Farmer Pome: Wow you got the berries! Well, let me make the vinaigrette for you!

After completing Supply and Demand and getting the other ingredients, return to Chef Quebown where you will complete The House (Salad) always wins.

Dialogue

Chef Quebown: Well I'll be...you actually did it! You got all the ingredients! I thought I was gonna make second this year in the salad off! Come! Come! Let's make the best house salad!

After completing this, players can now make harvester house salad. Gain a 4% chance of double drop rate on common items and materials.

Part 2: Char in Duskeron

The player will travel to Maja in Duskeron in search of Char. The player will come across a burned outbuilding with a galvanized knight looking at the ruble.

Dialogue

Knight: Move along citizen this is a restricted area.

The player: I'm looking for a grill chef named Char.

Knight: Well, I'm afraid you are out of luck. This is her restaurant and it appears it was burned down last night. We can't find her body but no one can find her.

The player: I could look for her.

Knight: This looks like the work of some bandits out in the west dunes. I would check out their first.

New Quest: Where is Char?

Step 1: Head west of Maja towards the bandit camps. Bandits will attack at times while going through the dunes.

Step 2: Get to the bandit gates of their fortress

Step 3: Speak with the gatekeeper

Dialogue:

Gatekeeper: Go away!

The player: I'm looking for grillardin Char.

Gatekeeper: ...

The player: I'm looking for a recipe she might have for dune drake roast?

Gatekeeper: DUNE DRAKE ROAST! Right! We tell you what! How about you bring us some dune drake meat and we will bring you Char!

The player: Where can I find a dune drake?

Gatekeeper: In the dunes you idiot! Kill the dune whelps and it will probably stick its ugly hand out of the sand!

New Quest: The Thrill of the Grill

Step 1: Kill Dune Whelps in the dunes. This will trigger the public event/quest to slay the Dune Drake.

Step 2: Kill the Dune Drake. (Note that this public event will require 10-15 players to take on the drake. Throughout the fight, the Drake can summon frenzied whelps which some members of the party will have to focus on.)

Step 3: Harvest the meat. (100% drop rate).

Step 4: Return to the gatekeeper

Dialogue:

Gatekeeper: I knew you were going to either get the meat or die trying, it was going to be a win-win for me no matter what.

The player: Take me to see Char

The gatekeeper opens the gate: We are going to be eating good tonight.

(Screen fades to black then fades back to see the player and Char in the middle of the camp.)

Dialogue:

Char: I told those idiots that I didn't want anyone from the outside to know I was here.

The player: Wait, you weren't captured?

Char: I'm a dusker! We don't get kidnapped. I was just tired of city life. These bandits and raiders find the best ingredients from the trade routes!

The player: So you burned down your own place just to be able to cook out here?

Char: Yes, now if I show you how to make the Dune Drake Roast, will you keep this between us?

The player: Sounds good to me!

After completing this, players can now make Dune Drake Roast. Gain an additional 5% damage boost to you and your party during public events

Part 3: Yacob in Ediseau

The player will travel to Skyder to Yacob's creamery. Yacob NPC will be behind the counter.

Dialogue:

Yacob: Welcome traveler! You in the mood for something sweet today!

The player: I was actually hoping to learn how to make frost bovine ice cream.

Yacob: I wish I could. You see due to the republic politics, I'm afraid I can't get a hold of any frost bovine milk anymore as they are deemed unhealthy for consumption. That darn governor is making all these health regulations now. First the frost bovine ice cream, then the beets cheest taffy, and now on the Joris snaps!

The player: Joris snaps?

Yacob: Nevermind that! You came for the ice cream! Perhaps you can persuade the governor to lay off these regulations.

New Quest: The Big Scoop

Step 1: Go to the governor's mansion and speak to the governor outside his house

Dialogue:

Governor: What can I do for you today?

The player: I was wondering if you could allow Yacob to access frost bovine milk to make ice cream

Governor: Absolutely not! That ice cream is disgusting and unhealthy! Why that Yacob needs to shut down his whole creamery and candy shop!

The player: Did something happen between Yacob and you

Governor: Well...uh...of course not! I just expect more of our citizens! Now please I have, uh, important governor stuff to do.

Step 2: Convince the governor to allow frost bovine milk.

Note: There are two ways to go about this quest.

Step 2.A: You can bribe the governor to tell you where you can get the milk but it will be expensive.

Step 3: Take the milk to Yacob.

Dialogue:

Yacob: How did you get the milk?!

The player: I bought it from the Governor.

Yacob: Oh, I see. Well, I can make your ice cream but I was hoping he would lift the ban.

The player: Where does he get this stuff anyways?

Yacob: From a wonderful frost bovine herder in the mountains. We use to date but after the ban, she quit writing me. I think it's my fault she doesn't have business here anymore.

The player: You should talk to her.

Yacob: I don't even know where she is in the mountains. I tell you what, if you can take me to find her in the mountains, maybe we can smuggle some more milk in and I can make more batches for you.

Starts the new quest: All is fair in love and ice cream.

or

Step 2: Convince the governor to allow frost bovine milk.

Step 2.B: You can sneak into his mansion and try to find information to blackmail him. This will require a sneaking mission throughout his house with guards. Being caught will have the guards throw you out of the mansion where you will have to start over. This is a solo quest.

Find the blackmail information which is his diary. Turns out the milk comes from a mountaineer who herds frost bovines. The governor had a crush on but found out the mountaineer is dating Yacob. In his rage, he banned the trade of frost bovine milk, confiscated all the milk, and now is selling it at a high price under the table. He also confiscated any letter between the mountaineer and Yacob.

Step 3: Return to Yacob.

Dialogue:

Yacob: Any luck?

The player: I found some dirt on the governor!

Yacob: He knew about the mountaineer and me?! I knew he had eyes for her!

The player: What should we do?

Yacob: I need to find her in the mountains, could you help me! I know some of the governor's lackeys may be snooping around up there!

The player: Let's go find your mountaineer!

Starts the new quest: All is fair in love and ice cream.

New Quest: All is Fair in Love and Ice Cream

Step 1: Head north of Skyder through the mountain paths.

Note: The player will come across the governor's private guards on the mountain path. Escorting Yacob is not a serious task as he can hold his own against the guard, if he gets downed, the player can revive him. The player can either sneak or fight the guards in the mountains.

Step 2: Find the mountaineer's home. Fight the guards watching her home.

Step 3: reunite Yacob and the mountaineer.

Dialogue:

Yacob: My mountain girl!

The mountaineer: My candyman!

The player: uh, should I give you two some room?

Mountaineer looks out the window: We may have some company.

Yacob, the mountaineer, and the player walk outside to see the governor and his guards.

Governor: Well well well! What do we have here?

Yacob: It's over governor! I don't care about my shop. I just want to be with her!

The mountaineer: and I am with him!

Governor: That's not fair! he draws his sword you won't win this time Yacob

Governor charges forward as the player and Yacob prepare for the attack. The mountaineer punches the governor in the face.

The governor guard runs off.

Fade to black and fades back to Yacob's store. All three over the ice cream.

Yacob: and that is how you make the frost bovine ice cream!

Part 4: Cooper in Sevrend

The player will find Cooper's cafe in Starscape

Dialogue:

Cooper: Welcome to my cafe how can I help a cool cat like you today.

The player: Can you teach me how to brew the dark bloom tea.

Cooper: You don't brew the dark bloom tea. The dark bloom tea brews you.

The player: What does that mean?

Cooper gives a nod and stares slowly smiling

The player: What does that look?

The screen will glitch out. Cooper and the player are back in the cafe.

Dialogue

Cooper: Hey man you okay? You lost yourself back there.

The player: I...uh...not sure what happened.
