Ember sword chapter 0: The Lone Pilot

“Alert! Alert! This is not a drill! Everyone to your station!” The sirens blaring in Luna’s ear were almost deafening. She just finished her night shift of patrols and in the morning, the sirens were blasting for some reason. She rolled out of her cot, put on her uniform, and opened the door leading into the hallway. Soldiers, pilots, and other crew members were running hectically in all directions. “This can’t be good,” she told herself. Luna wasn’t sure if she needed to run to the hanger where her ship set or to the command center. She knew Gunther was most likely at his post in the command center and could fill her in. All she had to do was leave the barracks and run across the training field to get to the center and away from these sirens. She made a dash past the crowd and stepped outside. Once she made it out, she looked up and froze. As more and more ran outside of the barracks, many of Luna’s colleagues did the same. They could not believe what lay in front of them.  Someone sp

Ember Sword Questline: The Executive Chef

Starting Location: Burkhalter’s Academy (Solarwood) Quest Giver NPC: Professor Awyn Quest Dialogue : Professor Awyn: What is it!...sorry, my stomach is a bit upset at the moment. The eating quarters at the academy have been a bit lack luster recently. I believe our head cook has become a bit complacent. They can't even brew a tea correctly anymore.  Stomach gargles. Oh, how I miss the exquisite dishes I use to have on my many travels. The fine dishes of Duskeron, Sevrend, Ediseau, and the farmlands of even Solarwoods were all excellent. You haven't really experienced the nation's pride until you tried them all!  I have a proposition for you. All of our students come from all four nations. Perhaps we could have a nation night of sorts where we prepare a three-course meal and a beverage all coming from the different nations. Could help the students who are home sick and introduce other students to the positives of other nations...I'm sure it could cut tensions after that

Ember Sword Chapter 7: The Garden of Starzhen

Matthis sat on the balcony of his small living space in Starscrape. He had been in the Sevrendi capitol city for roughly a week. After being sprayed by the spore, his team came across some Sevrendi locals who found him in his bad conditions and brought him into the city. Matthis was starting to become bored in the city. Madame Caza and Captain Dodd spent most of their days with the advisors of Sevrend. Rosa spent most of her days in the tavern and Eames was offering the other energy wielders lectures of his light energy. Matthis was tired of being in the humid jungle and longed to be back with Sarh in Maja. 10 years earlier, Maja and Duskeron was the last place he wanted to be.  Matthis watched the busy city below him, observing each Sevrendi trying to find the hooded person he chased through the jungle on their journey here. The locals said the jungle can be the biggest friend or foe depending on where you were. Matthis thought the hooded sevrendi was responsible for the vines and t

(Concept art provided by Bright Star Studios) Scouts were keeping a close eye on the ogre chief and his pack. They raided the rest of the farmlands with many of the farmers seeking refuge in the village. Whatever the ogres did not need they burned to the ground. Felix and his father, Bryon would come across other villages and homes of family and friends. Nothing left but cinder.  While Felix and Bryon were scouting, Edward was assisting the other townspeople in reinforcing the village. Setting up spike pits, extra lumber on the gate, and digging trenches. Edward wiped the sweat from his brow, he wasn't in the cold of Skyder anymore. He noticed Mara with a group of townsfolks teaching them some basic sword skills. Mara would give a command which the townsfolks would demonstrate. Mara dawned her short blade, some of the townsfolks had crude dull swords, kitchen knives, and woodcutting hatchets. Edward knew they weren't warriors, they didn't stand a chance. After the morale

A week passed since Mara and Edward's arrival to Solarwood and the academy. After speaking with the headmaster and interviewing some of the professors, they had finally found a lead. While in the library of the academy they came across old yearbooks of the different fraternities and sororities. Edward and Mara were alumni and they didn't even notice these groups when they were students. It seemed that these groups were banished from the school long ago. While interviewing other professors, they knew that these groups would have different rituals such as branding or tattoos. This caught the eye of Mara and Edward as one of the acolytes they took down in the sewers branded the tattoo of Solarwood. The more they dug, they found a former student that was part of that same fraternity that lived in a village not too far from the academy. Mara and Edward were packing up at the same time other students were leaving the academy for the summer. Many students were to travel back to their

Lisbeth tossed and turned throughout the night. She couldn't believe she was going to be taking on Pharrahdor tomorrow in the proving grounds. After the courtyard confrontation earlier that day, she didn't know what else she could do. Navaeh was her roommate, but she had snuck out to be with her girlfriend since she had a senior dorm to herself. Lisbeth laid in bed looking blankly at the ceiling. She needed some fresh air and stepped out to her balcony. She could see the lights of the village in the forest. It was quiet. At that moment she wished she could be back home in Sevrend. She took on the challenges of the jungle her whole life, but yet she couldn't stand up to one bully. Not just any bully, the biggest threat in the academy. The Sevrendi people were also prideful like Ediseans. If Navaeh didn't jump in, Lisbeth believed she would still accept the challenge. She wished she had Navaeh's confidence at this moment, Pharrahdor's intimidation, or even Felix
